Eine interessante Location. Ich mag solche versteckten Plätze, die man nur quer durch den Wald erreichen kann.

Also diese Ruine kannte ich bis heute noch nicht, obwohl ich schon einige male am Gleichenberger Kogel war und vieles schon mit dem Bike abgefahren bin. Ich wählte den direkten Weg von der Bundesstraße, was ich ganz und gar nicht empfehlen kann. Einfach ans Listing halten und genau auf Höhe der Ortstafel von Bad Gleichenberg den Wald hoch, so wie der Owner es schreibt. Ich viel besser als meine Variante.
Tolle Location hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Ein würdiger Cache für meinen 400er

nach einigen start und GPS Schwierigkeiten dann doch schnell gefunden. Sehr schöne Aussicht auch wenn etwas Diesig.

Traumhafter Winterspaziergang im frostigen Wald. Glizernde Eiskristalle an den Ästern, Pulverschnee unter den Schuhsohlen und ein paar Höhenmeter. An der frischen Luft wurde uns endlich klar dass der Weihnachtsstress vorbei ist ;-)

Wurzel hat es gestern schon gewusst...

This was my fourth and last cache for today. At first I thought about extending my walk from the nearby cache by Luchsp like gebu has done it, but then I decided to try to approach the cache in a similar manner than gustus. The reason for my decision was that I wanted to take the same route up and down in order to avoid the risk of having to descent via a route the difficulty of which is unknown to me.

I parked my car close to a shop and stop of the city bus and went up the hill at about the point where a small path can be seen at the AMAP. At first I had to walk at the edge of a meadow with quite high grass, but soon the forest area started. The path was rather steep, but not slippery. Nevertheless I had to be careful and mind every step in order to avoid to plant my foot in some ackward way.

After some time the small path disappeared and I had to accomplish the last part of the approach to the cache in a trackless manner. There I had to be even more careful. The reception was a bit jumpy at first, but by following the strategy of trying to get higher up, I finally succeeded.

I was glad that I had remembered to bring along a printout of the description of the ruin from burgenseite.com. In this manner it was easier for me to get a feeling how the castle might have looked like in former times and where it was located.

When I saw the many potential hideouts, I was at first somewhat worried that it would be too stressful for my leg to search around for the cache in this demanding terrain, but then I fortunately was successful quite soon. The cache is in good condition. Unfortunately, there is a lot of litter around in the target area - I did not take it with me as I had still to manage the descent and at the moment I prefer not to have to carry to much under such circumstances.

I then started the descent taking the same route than I had used for the ascent. The descent took me even longer than the ascent and I had to concentrate myself even more to take care of every single step. I was very glad when I arrived safely back at my car.

Thank you for hiding this nice cache which motivated me to visit a location which is interesting both from the historical point of view and from the botanical point of view. Despite the energy I had to invest into the ascent and the descent, I still was able to enjoy the nice oak forest. I did not take photographs, however, as I had preferred to refrain from taking my camera with me to reduce the weight of my knapsack.

I feel that 2.5* underrates the terrain even when one takes the approach I have taken and not the approach which is suggested in the cache description. It was somehow strange to do this cache after the luchsp cache which is rated as 3* (overrated), but so much easier than this cache from the point of view of the terrain.

I strongly recommend to everyone who does not like steep trackless ascents to use a map and to try to follow a path as long as possible.

Eigentlich wollte ich Hirschkäfer finden, da ich das letzte mal so ein Vieh in der Volksschule auf Schullandwoche gesehen habe.
Gefunden habe ich dann aber nur eine Plastikdose unter einem Felsen, was bedeutet das ich irgendwann wieder vorbeikommen muss. Als Entschädigung für die fehlenden Käfer gings dann über den schönen, mit runden Felsblöcken bedeckten Rücken in die Klause runter.

Steiler Weg durch schönen Wald. Auch botanisch sehr interessant. Cache nach ca. 10-minütiger Suche gefunden. Bin noch über den Gleichenberger-Kogel weitergegangen - Es gibt dort einen alten Mühlsteinbruch und eine Fossilfundstelle.

Also der vom Owner vorgeschlagene Weg ist etwas für die Hartgesottenen (nur zu!).
Da haben E und ich lieber nach dem alten Weg zur Burg gesucht. Und auch gefunden. Nicht weit davon gibt es einen Parkplatz bei einem Kaufhaus und auch eine Bushaltestelle.
Der Aufstieg ist dann nicht weiter schwierig aber natürlich etwas länger. Oben gibt es sogar ein Bankerl, auf dem wir die Frühlingsonne genossen haben. Die Dose hat sich ein bisschen geziert konnte sich aber vor E's scharfem Auge nicht lange verstecken. Danke Waldläufer für den schönen Cache.
Man sieht es muß nicht immer ein Multi sein.
