This is a virtual safari-cache.

Runes used to be the the "alfabet" of ancient nordic tribes. Common in scandinavia until the Christianization and to the 14th century. Not made for books, they formed a sound, a latinized letter or the phrase whose name they had. Runes were carved or sculpted so they had no roundings. Like the elder Futhark:
Its sound "th"
is well-known in english as "te-aigh" and with the letter ð still part of typewriters and surnames in Iceland.Or "ng"

.Safari & logcondition:
• Find a viking rune and its explanation outdoors.
• Take a picture of both and personalize this by holding someting unique in front of the camera.
• Upload the picture and name the coords of the place where it was taken.
Scratched lines in trees or rocks without a info-sign explaining them are insufficient.
Please be aware that this safari is related to antique germanic runes because of non-influence to todays society.
It is STRICTLY PROHIBITED by german and austrian law to advertize, spread out, picturize "Nazi"-runes! These are especially the Tyr-, Sig- and Odal-rune from the time 1923 to 1945 on uniforms, weapons, gravestones and other militaria.
Please don't even think about any kind of svastikas.

In this example at N 54° 49.771 E 009° 32.712 the "W"-rune Wunjo, which has the meaning of bliss, love, friendship or peace

Im Ort Hällestad in Südschweden/ Schonen gibt es eine Kirche zu entdecken, in welcher 3 Runensteine in der Außenmauer verbaut wurden. Eine Info-Tafel steht am Eingang zum Areal.

Ein Kurzurlaub führte nach Utrecht und Amsterdam und natürlich konnten dabei auch einige Fotos für Safaris geschossen werden.
In Utrecht in der Nähe des Doms fanden wir einen großen Runenstein samt Erklärung (in Niederländisch)

Nach dem Erik-Stein ging es wieder Richtung Schleswig, dort konnte ich auf einer Bank mit Runen bei
N 54 29.613 E 009 33.197
eine Pause einlegen. Leider wurde nicht erläutert, welche Bedeutung die Runen haben, aber ich vermute, es hat mit Haithabu zu tun, da direkt daneben ein Gedenkstein an Haithabu/Sliesthorp stand.

Ich war heute in und um Haithabu unterwegs, da findet man schon so den ein oder anderen Runenstein. In jedem Fall aber einen der Gedenksteine, die an einige gefallene Krieger aus dem 10, Jahrhundert erinnern.
Der Erik-Stein ist einer der schönsten davon.
Er steht gut erreichbar an einem Parkplatz bei N54 28.082 E009 33.819
