Der Quarzbruch - la cava di quarzo

Weißer Quarzsand auf dem schmalen Pfad verrät die Nähe des einst ertragreichen Quarzbruches. Laut Fridolin Pircher, Besitzer dieses Grundstücks, wunrden besonders während der beiden Weltkriege beträchtliche Mengen reinsten Quarzes aus mehreren Stollen herausgeholt.Dieses Material zeichnet sich durch seine hohe Qualität aus: Es soll sich um den zweitreinsten Quarz Europas handeln.
Während des ersten Weltkriegs transportierten die damaligen österreichischen Bergleute Quarzbrocken zur Töll, wo in der Nähe des heutigen Kalkwerks Silizium daraus gewonnen wurde. Reines Silizium hatte damals als Legierungsbestandteil besonders in Stahl eine große Bedeutung. Aus dem Stahl mit Naturnser Silizium fertigte man nämlich Kanonenrohre.
Während des zweiten Weltkriegs wurde der Quarzabbau gesteigert, und täglich fuhr man ungefähr 20 m³ zu den Magnesiumwerken nach Bozen, wo das Silizium zur Herstellung von Legierungen für Flugzeugtragflächen verwendet wurde.

La bianca sabbia di quarzo sullo stretto sentiero rivela la vicinanza della cava di quarzo, un tempo molto ricca. Secondo Fridolin Pircher, proprietario di questo terreno, soprattutto durante le due guerre mondiali furono estratte da numerose gallerie notevoli quantita' di quarzo purissimo. Questo materiale si distingue per la sua ottima qualita': pare che in Europa ci sia soltanto una qualita`di quarzo piu`pure di questo.
Durante la prima guerra mondiale i montanari all'epoca austriaci trasportavano pezzi di quarzo fino a Tel, dove nei pressi dell'odierna cava di calce ne veniva estratto il silicio.A quel tempo il silicio puro era molto importante come componente delle leghe, in particolare dell'acciaio. Con l'acciaio prodotto grazie al silicio di Naturno infatti si costruivano le canne dei cannoni.
Durante la seconda guerra mondiale l'estrazioen di quarzo aumento': quotidianamente ca. 20m³ di minerale venivano trasportati alle fabbriche di magnesio a Bolzano, dove il silicio veniva utilizzato per realizzare le leghe che servivano alla costruzione delle superfici alari degli aeroplani.

White quartz sand on the narrow path reveals the proximity of the once productive quartz cave. According Fridolin Pircher, the owner of that property, especially during the two world wars, significant quantities of purest crystal was taken from the cave. This material has highest quality: it should concern the second finest quartz in Europe.
During the First World War, the austrian miners transported quartz boulders to Töll, where was silicon produced from it. Pure silicon was at that time an alloying element in steelof great importance. From the steel was manufactured with silicon from Naturns namely muzzles.
During the Second World War, the quartz mining was increased, and every day they drove about 20 cubic meters to the magnesium works to Bolzano, where the silicon was used for the production of alloys for airplane wings.
